PURRS Naperville - PO Box 4432 - Naperville - Illinois - 60567
Dear Friend of PURRS,
With the generous donations and support we have received this year, we have been able to save hundreds of cats from certain euthanasia...over 400 so far for 2011. These cats come to us sometimes with broken bodies and very often with broken spirits, and over 80% of them come from DuPage County. We are the only shelter in DuPage that pulls primarily from within DuPage and one of the few outlets nationwide for injured or special needs animals. Our dedicated PURRS team patches up all new arrivals with love, patience, and expert medical care and then sends them on to good loving homes (maybe some are in your home!). With your generous support this year, we have also been able to extend our help to many needy owners in DuPage helping with food and basic expenses as well as assisting with much needed medical care, all so these already-owned cats could stay in their homes where they belong. Our goal at PURRS Naperville is a "No Kill DuPage" and every cat life matters, from the strays outside to the many cats living in homes with people on the edge financially. Cat overpopulation is a big issue and we take it seriously.
We have big plans for next year to continue our success towards reaching our goal of a "No Kill DuPage" and we need your help to bring those plans to life! Our plans include both expanding our initiatives to keep cats in their homes as well as expanding our adoption outreach efforts. We are starting educational programs for youth to teach them about the unique characteristics of cats and fun hands-on classes (agility was mentioned!) with handouts to celebrate the joy of owning a cat. We are also building a comprehensive behavior section on our web site. This section will be specially designed based on suggestions from YOU, including scratching issues, cats going outside of the box, tips for cats and kids, introducing cats to cats/dog, what dogs are good with cats, health tips, and low cost resources. All of these initiatives are designed to keep cats in their homes and create new homes for deserving kitties. I have to mention our crown jewel as well: PURRS Naperville is doing our final research on a NEW 26-foot MOBILE ADOPTION UNIT. This unit will serve many purposes. It will raise awareness of PURRS Naperville, our wonderful cats and our goal of a "No Kill DuPage". It will result in MORE ADOPTIONS and more lives saved (initial estimates suggest a 25% increase in adoptions!). It will also expand our volunteer base as well as our very important donor base. And lastly this new adoption unit can serve DuPage as a whole as a temporary shelter/staging area during an emergency. Success = more lives saved.
Sometimes though there is little time to plan or celebrate success before another kitty in need comes calling.
What is orange and furry and goes bump in the night? Well SKEETER of course! Some of you remember Skeeter. He came to us from downstate facing certain euthanasia. It was only Skeeter's winning personality and PURRS' offer to rescue him and pick up costs that got him a ticket to a new life. Skeeter was found outside stumbling around cold and alone. The finder thought he was blind. It turns out he was born with underdeveloped eyes and did have sight at birth. When found though, his eyes were so infected that they had to be removed leaving him not just totally blind but WITHOUT EYES at 3 months of age.
PURRS Naperville cleaned him up, got him needed surgical care and found him a wonderful loving long term home all in just a few short weeks. His adopter appropriately renamed him "Bumpers" and he lives in luxury. It is happy stories like Skeeter's that keep us going to the next challenge.
We have BIG GOALS as we look forward to PURRS future and we and the cats need your help to reach those goals. As the year comes to a close and you find yourselves gathering with loved ones, including your wonderful "kitty loved ones", we ask that you remember PURRS Naperville and the many cats in need - some of whom are spending the holidays in a cage. We ask you to please give generously so we may help the many needy cats get well, know love for the first time, and find permanent loving homes.
PURRS Naperville is an IRS 501(c)(3) organization, which means your donation is deductible to the fullest extent under the law.
Sincerely,
Rachael C. Resk
