trap neuter return

Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) is a full management plan in which stray and feral cats already living outdoors in cities, towns, and rural areas are humanely trapped, then evaluated, vaccinated, and sterilized by veterinarians. Kittens and tame cats are adopted into good homes when homes are available through no-kill shelters. Healthy adult cats unsocialized to humans are returned to their familiar habitat under the lifelong care of volunteers who act as their caretakers.

At this time there are no laws in DuPage County regarding Trap Neuter Return. Feral cats brought to DuPage Animal Control are humanely euthanized.

TNR is legal in Cook County and an ongoing iniative is underway there.

Initiatives are also underway in DuPage as well to make Trap Neuter Return legal.

Feral Fixers (http://www.feralfixers.org)  is leading these initatives and we whole heartedly support Feral Fixers in this effort. If you have any questions regarding TNR in Dupage county or need assistance trapping feral cats, please contact Feral Fixers. Feral Fixers has requested email as the best way to contact.

PURRS will be offering the following services regarding TNR:

1. Hosting workshops on Trap Neuter Return

2. Providing information and referrals on TNR services in DuPage and surrounding counties

3. Renting feral traps

4. Providing information and referrals to low cost spay neuter clinics

We support Feral Fixers by taking their 'friendlies' and placing them in good homes.
